The Chair for Terrestrial Ecology of Prof. Weisser at the Technical University of Munich is looking for the 2021 summer semester:

Student research assistants (m/f/d)

Project:
Insecticide was sprayed on Franconian oak forests to combat the propagation of the gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) in 2019. We investigate the long-term implications of these treatments for insect diversity and are looking for motivated students to support insect sampling and sorting from May to September 2021.

Contract type: 2 months minimum; 10-20 hours / week

Tasks:
Insect sampling by canopy fogging (field work). This sampling will be conducted at night (22:00 – 07:00) within 2 field campaigns: late-May and early-July (3- 5 days each). The sampled insects should then be sorted in the laboratory

Preliminaries:

  • Conversational English skills (B1 and above)
  • Flexibility with time. Fogging is dependent on weather conditions so campaigns cannot be planned long in advance.

Beneficial:

  • Driving license valid in Germany (class B)
  • Good German skills
  • Good orientation skills
